Video Who’s Who

By now you have had the chance to check out our video announcing the selected photographers for ONWARD ‘11. In addition to the exhibition’s curator, Larry Fink, there are some notable appearances by other photography and art-related personalities. If you were wondering who some of them are and how they are connected to the Philadelphia art world, here is a brief introduction.

Martin McNamara is the Director and co-owner of Gallery 339, a fine-art photography gallery in Philadelphia. He is the first person to appear after Larry and his part in the video was shot at Gallery 339 with Martine Fougeron’s After Prom (from the Tête-à-Tête Project) exhibition in the background.

The person directly after Martin is Zoe Strauss. She is a Philadelphia photographer most famous for her yearly exhibition Under I-95 where she pastes a series of her photographs to the concrete pillars that elevate I-95 in South Philly one Sunday in May each year. After the photographs have been up for a few hours, the public is invited to tear down the photos and take them home. 2010 was the tenth and final year of the Under I-95 series. Currently, Zoe is preparing for a solo exhibition that will occur at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in January 2012, which will be the “first critical assessment of her ten-year project.”

Peter Barberie is the Brodsky Curator of Photographs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and is also curating the Zoe Strauss exhibition. He was also the juror for the ONWARD ‘09 exhibition. Peter is the last person to appear in the video (at the 2:00 mark) and stands in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Two other Philadelphia art notables are Roberta Fallon and Libby Rosof who appear on the carousel that is in the Please Touch Museum here in Philly. Roberta and Libby run The Artblog, an excellent resource for current commentary on the art scene in Philadelphia and elsewhere.

A big thank you to everyone who appeared in the video and all who helped!
