The Sun Rises Elsewhere: ONWARD Travels to Japan

We are elated to announce a new development surrounding ONWARD ‘11. This year we have sought to expand the competition globally by partnering with international sponsors and translating the submission materials into Japanese. Now we will go one step further by literally bringing the ONWARD ‘11 exhibition to Japan!

As part of an enthusiastic partnership between Project Basho and the Ricoh photo gallery, Ring Cube, a selection of the photographs displayed at the Project Basho Gallery will travel to Tokyo for an exhibition at Ring Cube’s photo space. Furthermore, the two winners of ONWARD ‘11, as well as guest juror Larry Fink, will receive a sponsored invitation for the opening reception in Tokyo in May 2011.

Project Basho is excited to collaborate with Ring Cube and Ricoh, a Japanese technology company that makes an impressive line of consumer and professional-grade digital cameras. The two winners will each receive a Ricoh digital camera courtesy of Ring Cube and Ricoh. Ricoh’s photo gallery, Ring Cube, is a striking facility located at the famous Ginza 4-chome intersection in the heart of downtown Tokyo and combines exhibition space with hands-on educational resources.

This is a truly unique opportunity for emerging photographers to have their work shown internationally. ONWARD has always focused on creating venues to show outstanding new photography, both in physical form and online, and this partnership with Ring Cube further extends our international reach.

The winners of ONWARD ‘11 will be notified with all the details regarding the trip to Japan. We look forward to the growing submissions. Best of luck!

I am delighted to learn that one of my photos (Polka Dot Man) was selected by curator Larry Fink for the ONWARD 11 Exhibition! At the age of 83 and having virtually recovered from a recent stroke, this event has had a great positive effect on my determination to continue in the photographic arts. I am awaiting the opportunity to view the other photographers’ images that were also selected. Have a great Holiday to all. Len
